Diabetic Retinopathy – What You Need to Know

Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that develops when the blood vessels in your retina (the light-sensitive part of the back of your eye) are damaged. As the retina becomes more damaged, it can impact your vision. Your eyesight may become blurry, less intense, and begin to disappear.

People with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes can develop diabetic retinopathy.

The initial stages of diabetic retinopathy may not display any symptoms. However, over time, the condition can worsen and lead to partial and then complete blindness.
