What Is an ophthalmologist?

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) who specializes in eye vision care. What is an optometrist?

Optometrists are Doctors of Optometry (OD) that also concentrate in primary care eye care. Optometrists are trained to prescribe glasses and contacts and diagnose and treat certain eye diseases. It is common for optometrists to work side by side with ophthalmologists to help co-manage with pre-op and post-op care and disease management.
